Sturdy construction
Upon first interaction, the scale’s substantial weight conveys a sense of sturdiness and reliability. This heft is not merely for show; it ensures stability during use, preventing any unwanted movement or tipping. I feel like the solid build quality reflects good engineering and consistent performance over time.
Elegant reflective glass surface
The top surface of the BodyPilot scale has a beautiful, reflective bluish glass. This choice of material not only enhances the visual appeal but also adds a touch of sophistication to the design. The glass finish is smooth to the touch and easy to clean, maintaining its pristine appearance over time.

I have not charged the scale since the first use. That is quite crazy, since it has been using it daily for the last four months!. And the battery-symbol is still indicating that about 70 percnt battery-charge. So it might last for several months more!.
Nice packaging

The BodyPilot scale arrives in a box featuring a large image of the device on the top, giving a clear preview of the product inside. Inside, the scale is nestled within ample padding, protecting it during transit. Alongside the scale and charging cable, the package includes a well-written and easy-to-understand instruction manual, guiding users through setup and operation.
First setup of the Scanfit app
The scale works best with the Scanfit app installed on your phone. I use an iPhone so the following will be how to install it on an Apple device.

First, go to appstore to get the Scanfit app. Choose the one you see on the picture and NOT the Healthcoach (Sundhedscoach) app, also from Scanfit. We will later get to why this is so…

After setting up a new user profile you get to your personal information. It is important to be very accurate because these numbers are the base for calculating your metrics like body fat percentage, health status, etc.
A weird part of the setup is choosing your avatar. Here you have to decide whether you are a fox, banana, dumbbell, or peach! You might even decide to be a swimming pool…

Connectivity

During setup the app asks for a Bluetooth connection and by having your phone close to the scale the connection is quickly established. This makes the scale able to connect to the app and show you the results of measurements instantaneously on your phone’s screen.

Another great feature is the connection to your home wifi network. This connection is made by choosing your wifi and typing in the wifi-password. By having this connection you do not need your phone to get the measurements into the app. After the scale is finished measuring, the result is transferred to a cloud service that connects to the app the next time you open it on your phone.
That is really a great and useful feature that makes daily measurements much quicker. Just stand on the scale and have it measure you. Then put the scale back in its place and the data is automatically sent to the app!
Connection and data transfer to Apple Health and Fitbit
In settings, it is possible to connect the scale to Apple Health and Fitbit. I use an iPhone and have connected the Scanfit app to my Apple Health account.
This feature is very important to me because it makes it easy to record health metrics every day. By using Apple Health to keep track of your body metrics you can always decide to use another product for body measurements. As long as the new device has the same precision as the Scanfit BodyPilot and connects to the same metrics in Apple Health.

Scanning results
Within the Scanfit app, users can view the results of their body scans. On the primary screen, essential measurements are displayed, allowing users quick and convenient access to their data. For those interested in exploring further, tapping the central Plus sign opens up a comprehensive and detailed view of the scan results, offering an in-depth analysis for a more thorough understanding.
The health report
In my opinion, the best part is the Report view, where all important data is put into a nice-looking and easy-to-understand format.
By pressing the export icon on the top right corner you can open the report in a browser app like Chrome. From here you can send it to your printer or save it as a PDF file.
The results vary quite a bit between me and my two friends who have also used the Scanfit Bodypilot scale. As you can see the difference is quite significant even though we are considered normal lean guys who train regularly. The differences could indicate that the measurements are an accurate and precise way to compare different people.



How to do a measurement
To get the most reliable results over time you have to be consistent in how and when you do the measurement. The general recommendation is to use the scale first thing in the morning after visiting the toilet.
In that way, your body is in the same state every time and the measurements are performed consistently.

The Scanfit HealthCoach app
Scanfit has launched a new app named Sundhedscoach (Healthcoach).
I am sorry to say this, but the standard Scanfit app stands out as a far superior choice compared to the Sundhedscoach app in several key areas:
Better usability
The Scanfit app feels more user-friendly, offering an intuitive interface that makes navigating and understanding body scan data effortless. In contrast, Sundhedscoach feels more restrictive and less polished.
Easier access to body scan metrics
Scanfit provides a clear, well-organized overview of all body scan metrics in one place. This makes it easy to track progress and analyze key health data. The Healthcoach app, on the other hand, is not providing this level of detail. Perhabs for people that are not as nerdy as me the Healthcoach app is just fine, but for me, it feels a little behind the original Scanfit app.
Excellent report function
One of Scanfit’s standout features is its report function, which generates detailed and insightful health reports. This allows for better tracking and deeper analysis of changes over time. The Sundhedscoach app does not offer such a comprehensive reporting tool.
Feels like an incomplete app
While Scanfit delivers a fully functional experience right from the start, the Healthcoach app feels limited unless you purchase a subscription. Many important health prediction features are locked behind a paywall, which can be frustrating for users looking for a complete health-tracking solution. Especially if you do not like additional fees after purchasing the BodyPilot scale.
Though the 3-month trial for its advanced health prediction features is a nice bonus, it still doesn’t compare to the full-featured experience that the original Scanfit app provides without additional costs.
In summary, Scanfit is the better app choice due to its superior usability, clear data presentation, excellent report functionality, and the fact that it feels like a complete solution from the start—without forcing users into a subscription.

The technology behind the Scanfit BodyPilot
A body scan scale like Scanfit BodyPilot measures body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).
Here’s how it works technically:
Electrical Impedance Measurement
When you step on the scale, it sends a low-level electrical current (completely safe) through your body via metal electrodes on the platform.
This current flows through your body, encountering varying resistance levels (impedance) depending on the tissue type.
Tissue Characteristics
Fat is a poor conductor of electricity because it contains little water.
Muscles, blood, and water are good conductors of electricity because they are water-rich.
The scale measures how much the current slows down as it passes through your body, indicating how much of your body is lean mass, fat, or other tissues.
Using Preloaded Data
The scale uses your age, gender, height, and weight, which you input, to calculate body composition. This data helps the scale estimate the proportions of fat, muscle, and water in your body.
Breakdown of Measurements
Weight: Determined by the scale.
Body Fat Percentage: Estimated based on impedance and your body parameters.
Muscle Mass: Calculated using lean tissue impedance.
Body Water Percentage: Estimated by the speed at which the current passes through hydrated tissue.

Measurements are conducted using ScanFit’s dual-frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), providing a detailed insight into body composition.
Low-frequency signals (20 kHz): Measure fluid outside the cells.
High-frequency signals (100 kHz): Measure fluid inside the cells.
I have been using the InBody scale for several years and find it quite slow compared to using the Scanfit BodyPilot. The measurement takes double the time on the InBody machine and it does not connect to my home wifi and transfer the data, because it was located in my local fitness club. That made daily measurements impossible and it did not connect to Apple Health to keep my body metrics in sync.
